Ba Na Hills & Golden Bridge
The first cable car of the day, the Golden Bridge before the crowds, and a French village at 1,400 metres.
Why I like this one
The Golden Bridge is genuinely beautiful and genuinely crowded, and the difference between a wonderful morning and a frustrating one is entirely what time you arrive.
So we leave early and take one of the first cable cars, while the cloud is still sitting in the valley and there is room to stand on the bridge and photograph it properly. By the time it fills up we have moved on to the gardens.
Bring a light jacket. It is 18–25°C at the summit, which after a week on the beach feels like another country.
Highlights
- The Golden Bridge — 150 metres of walkway held up by two giant weathered hands
- A Guinness-record cable car: 5,801 metres in one unbroken span, 17–25 minutes over the forest
- Le Jardin d'Amour, nine themed gardens behind the French village
- Several degrees cooler than the coast, all day
The plan, hour by hour
This is how the day usually runs. Nothing is fixed — if you want longer somewhere, or you'd rather skip a stop entirely, just say so on the day.
-
07:30
Hotel pick-up
Early, and I will not apologise for it. This is the single decision that decides what kind of day you have.
-
08:15
Cable car up
Thirty-five kilometres and about forty-five minutes to the station, then the long ride up over forest and waterfalls. The ticket is around 950,000₫ for an adult, less for children by height, and covers the cable cars, the Golden Bridge, the French Village and Fantasy Park.
-
09:00
The Golden Bridge
Straight here first. A hundred and fifty metres of gold walkway at 1,400 metres, carried by two enormous weathered stone hands, with the whole coast behind it if the cloud is kind. Twenty quiet minutes now is worth two crowded hours later.
-
09:45
French Village
A cobbled square, a church, a Gothic hotel and nine themed gardens at Le Jardin d'Amour. It is a replica and it is beautifully made — and at this altitude the mist does half the work.
-
11:00
Fantasy Park, or the alpine coaster
Included in your ticket: several floors of indoor games and rides, good with children and skippable without them. The alpine coaster is about 70,000₫ a run and you control the brake.
-
12:00
Lunch at the summit
The buffet up here is the sensible choice and it is honestly decent — Vietnamese and European, and a seat with a view.
-
13:30
Linh Ung Pagoda and the gardens
The quiet corner of Ba Na that most visitors walk past: a white Buddha, incense, and long views down the valley when the cloud lifts.
-
15:00
Cable car down
Before the late-afternoon queue builds at the top station.
-
16:30
Drop-off
Back at your hotel with time to swim before dinner.
